God Is With Us
All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).
Isaiah 7:14 NLT
Isaiah 7:14 NLT
Since the Fall, mankind has always felt as if God were far away. Distant. Separated. Unknowable. This is why so many religions teach their adherents to travel on pilgrimages to the few spots where the Divine's presence can be felt. "God is at such and such a place," they say. Or, "Let's worship God at the church." Still others take it a step further and insist God only lives in Heaven or in outer space.
But God, because He is gracefully condescending and humble, sent His Son to live with humanity! Immanuel, a.k.a. Jesus Christ, came to us when we were unwilling to go to Him. He lived and breathed and ate and slept and walked here on Earth. He died and resurrected and now sits at the right hand of God the Father in Heaven. And although, yes, He is now physically separated from us until He comes again, His spirit is present with us now. God is with us and that is good news!
God is available to you now, right where you are. The Spirit of Christ will never leave you. Although it is good to go on sacred pilgrimages and spiritual retreats, remember that the God of miracles is with you wherever you are.
Immanuel!
